Dress Code in the Manufacturing Industry

Wearing custom T-shirts or casual wear has become an easier way for employees in the manufacturing industry to work more comfortably and efficiently. However, employees must also maintain a sense of professionalism in the way they dress and act. Here are some guidelines to help your company form a proper dress code that fits the professional image you want and the comfort your employees seek.

Inappropriate Clothing

There are some clothes that should never be worn within company premises. These include sundresses, midriff-bearing tops, backless dresses and outfits, as well as workout clothes for exercising. They do not fit the setting and should not be worn in place of usual work clothes. Any outfit that reveals excessive cleavage, stomach, or feet are not preferred.

Clean clothes are a must for every employee. As such, wearing dirty outfits will reflect negatively on the employee. Any clothing with profane or offensive terms and images should not be displayed or worn. Any clothing with strong political and religious messages, as well as anything sexually provocative, must not be allowed.

The bottom line is that employees are not supposed to wear clothes that offend everyone. Look for a balance between comfort and respect for space. As such, a dress code is in order.

Dress Code

The manufacturing industry recommends the wearing of slacks and pants that are made of either wool or cotton. Pants that reach below the knee are allowed. Athletic pants can work. However, shorts are inappropriate for work. Any pants above the knee are prohibited.

For women, skirts that are below the knee or of some comfort for the wearer are allowed. Spaghetti-strap dresses and mini-skirts are not allowed.

Custom T-shirts that do have appropriate designs are allowed, as well as sweaters and sweatshirts, among others. Sports shirts are also preferred. However, any tank tops or shirts that reveal significant amounts of skin are not allowed. The same should apply to shirts with offensive images and messages that affect the race, religion, and political leanings.

For footwear, boots and athletic shoes can be an alternative to black leather shoes. It is not advised to wear open-toed sandals and shoes, especially when working in the office. Women are free to not wear stockings, particularly in warm areas of the world.

General Guide

The reason why closed shoes are preferred is that they would protect employees from potential harm when working in a manufacturing facility. Furthermore, showing off skin and specific body parts is discouraged due to the need to maintain professionalism and avoid provoking people.

As an important note, if a person belongs to a specific religious denomination that prescribes specific headwear, they are allowed to wear them to work.

Dress codes are important for maintaining standards within the company. They do not have to be excessively strict. However, there is a certain degree of compliance employees must show towards commonly-agreed policies and norms.

If possible, clothing must also not be a ground for discrimination or any form of harassment. At the same time, employees should be told about the dress code and how to avoid getting into trouble for not following through. Companies should adapt to the need to provide employees with the freedom to choose what to wear while ensuring their protection and maintaining the public image of the company.
